THE FRIENDS OF HARDY LAKE...
Friends of Hardy Lake is an all volunteer, non profit, 501 (c)(3) corporation. The purpose of the corporation is to support the Hardy Lake State Recreational Area of Indiana, The Dwight Chamberlain Raptor Rehabilitation Center and Hardy Lake Interpretive Educational Programs - Through both fundraising and man power.
The Friends of Hardy Lake host an ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT breakfast, with all the proceeds going to The Dwight Chamberlain Raptor Rehab Center. Prices are:

GOLF SCRAMBLE - JUNE 17th 2011 at 1:00pm
The Chamber of Commerce will be hosting its annual golf scramble at Westwood Golf Course in Scottsurg. Cost is $40 per person, and this includes greens fee, cart, and picnic lunch. Tee-off is at 1:00pm, however lunch will be served at 12:00 Noon. First prize is $200, Second is $175, and Third is $150. MID-SUMMER QUILT SHOW
July 9th from 10 am - 4 pm will be the date of our Mid-Summer Quilt Show presented by Winding Water's Quilt Guild. We are fortunate to have two quilt guilds in this county with many talented quilters. (The Harmony Quilt Guild has their Quilt Show, Sept 17th) In addition to the Quilt Show on July 9, there will be free garden presentations held under the canopy. Helen Trueblood, Master Gardener and flower judge will share her expertise at 10:30 on "Favorite Daylilies." Helen is a winner of national horticultural recognition and is certainly someone every gardener should know! At 12:00 Betty Manning will give a demonstration with recipes and sampling of "Cooking With Herbs." On the Keeping Room Porch at 1:00 there will be a Show & Tell of quilts. Anyone is welcome to bring a favorite quilt to show.
At 1:30 Greg Manning, Stream Cliff's horticulturist, will discuss "The All White Garden." Stream Cliff, thanks to Greg's interest, is now offering more unusual and a wider selection of daylilies.

MADISON REGATTA - TO BE HELD JULY 1- 3, 2011
Madison is normally a quiet little Jefferson County, Indiana town on the banks of the Ohio River. The town is filled with history, quaint shops, historic homes and even a couple of wineries. But that all changes when the world's fastest boats take to the river.
Boat racing on the Ohio can trace its roots to the 1800s when keelboat races were conducted. The earliest power boat race was in 1911 when the steamboat Princess tied up in the middle of the river near Madison and power launches raced an oval course around the steamboat. The first boats built specifically for racing appeared in 1919 and the first major regatta occurred in 1929.
The 1937 flood brought an end to organized boat racing in Madison for many years. Competition resumed in 1949, when a local group, that was later to become Madison Regatta,Inc., conducted an unsanctioned event for limited inboard and outboard racing craft. The race entered the modern era in 1950, when the American Power Boat Association sanctioned the event.
The first running of the Governor's Cup race was in 1951. Since 1954, the Madison Unlimited race has always been scheduled for two or more heats with National High Points at stake.
Admission wristbands are available for purchase as are Regatta memberships. These passes are available through Madison Regatta, Inc., 812-265-5000. Children under 10 are admitted free. The Regatta has first come, first served seating on the riverbank. Tarp Spaces, RV parking and VIP Tent Tickets are also available.

THE PIG ROAST IN THE PARK - TO BE HELD AUGUST 12TH AND 13TH 2011...
The Annual Pig Roast in The Park is held at Beachwood Park on the south edge of Scottsburg. This is a great family event sponsored by the Scottsburg Beautification Committee. It's a good time to bring a blanket or lawn chair and sit back to listen to music, a local talent contest, listen to the hog calling contest, and if you feel really lucky, enter in the Euchre Tournament. there are also several sports tournaments, including tennis, horseshoes, basketball, and softball.

LEOTA COUNTRY FROLIC - TO BE HELD AUGUST 26TH AND 27TH 2011...
Leota is the site of the oldest crossroads in the State of Indiana. It is the only crossroads known to converge over a creek and it happens inside a covered bridge! What better place to hold a true country frolic!
Not sure what a country frolic is! Webster defines it "to play in a light-hearted or lively manner." The tradition goes back to the time when farmers got together to share and celebrate prior to the beginning of the harvest season. People would bring musical instruments, favorite food and yes, even their most unusual farm equipment. Activities were planned for the entire family. The Leota celebration maintains the tradition.
On Thursday, the village of Leota will be crowded as booths are set up and made ready to celebrate the Anniversary of Leota. The annual Euchre Tournament will be held at the barn.
Downtown Leota will be lively as the tractors pour in for the field of tractors and other equipment. There will be antiques and plenty of stories being told about the farm equipment, and those who have owned them over the years. You can expect to see over 100 rare tractors and unique farm machines. Entertainment will include live gospel, country, and bluegrass music and dancers who take to the street. Don't miss the Arts & Crafts and Flea Market section. Demonstrations will be going on during the frolic. On Saturday there will be youth talent contest, watermelon eating contest, and much more! Don't miss the frolic.

ANNUAL POKER RUN...
The Charlestown Beauti!cation Committee will host a Poker Run on Saturday, September 10th, 2011. Registration will begin at 9:00 A.M. with kickstands up at exactly 10:30 A.M. There is a $15 entry fee per driver
and $10 fee per rider. A meal is included with each fee. Meet on the square rain or shine. This will be a 100+ mile ride, so make sure to come with a full tank of gas!
ANNUAL FLY-IN, RADIO CONTROLLED PLANE SHOW - TO BE HELD SEPTEMBER 17 & 18 2011...
Scottsburg Airport is the site of some pretty exciting events! In 2004 it hosted the 8th US National Microlight Championships which was filmed for National Geographic.
This September, it will host their annual "Fly-In", where normally more than 75 planes fly in for the day. Planes normally include Ultra Lights, Experimental, and Home Built Planes as well as some incredible WWII vintage planes. You will have a chance to inspect the planes and talk with the pilots.
For those wanting to take a ride in an Ultralight, this is your chance! Bring a lawn chair, and spend the day on Saturday watching planes come and go. But wait....stay at one of the lodging facilities in Scott County (tell them you came for the Fly-In and get a discount)...then come back the next day to watch the radio controlled model planes. (Actually some of the radio controlled planes will do some night flying on Saturday night.)
This is serious business for the people who fly these planes. Price tags can go as high as $15,000 for one of these planes! Expect to see over 100 model enthusiasts fly their planes, participate in demo flights, and share their knowledge. In addition to planes, there are also helicopters, and radio controlled cars. Factor representatives will be available for those interested, and several seminars are planned. Enthusiasts will come to this event from over 6 states!

General Lew Wallace (Indiana Author) will be present to tell us about the history during his life in the Civil War and following the war. He was born in Brooksville, Indiana in 1827. He wrote the famous book Ben Hur.
General Wallace will be presented by Re-Enactor, Phil McClure. A limit of 60 tickets will be sold, due to space, so don't delay in purchasing your ticket. Tickets are $12.00 per person and includes the dinner.

"NIFTY FIFTY" BIKE RIDE - TO BE HELD SEPTEMBER 3RD, 4TH, AND 5TH 2011...
The Annual Labor Day "Nifty Fifty" Bicycle Ride will take place in September, beginning at the Scott County Family YMCA in Scottsburg. The Scott County YMCA is at 805 Community Way in Scottsburg.
There are 25 and 50 mile loops, both beginning at the YMCA. The 50 mile loop is for experienced bikers only. Both the 50 and the 25 mile loops are over fairly flat terrain. There will be stops along the way that will offer fruit, cookies, snacks, sport drinks and water. These stops will end at 1:00pm. All riders must be finished by 2:00pm.

RAPTOR DAYS AT HARDY LAKE - TO BE HELD FROM SEPTEMBER 23RD TO 25TH...
If you have never seen a bald eagle up close and personal, this could be a once in a lifetime opportunity! Most of us will never have the opportunity to be so close to this nation's national symbol.
The weekend is filled with activities for nature enthusiasts and for families alike. Starting on Friday, there will be tours on and around the lake, with interpreters bringing your attention to many natural occurrences, which are easily overlooked.
On Saturday, there will be a series of programs at the shelter house overlooking beautiful Hardy Lake. You will meet many live diurnal raptors and be amazed at how much you will learn. Throughout the weekend, many "hands on" activities are scheduled for all ages of the family. You might enjoy looking around the lake for Osprey. In addition, food vendors and a variety of art vendors will be present.

A TASTE OF THE VINE
The Scott County Knights of Columbus presents A Taste of the Vine.

at the Scottsburg Knights of Columbus Hall.
The Order is trying a new venture, a wine tasting to benefit for our scholarship fund. We plan to have 14 wineries from Indiana. A beer vendor to sell beer by the glass (for people who do not drink wine). Two food boths-one will have pulled pork sandwiches and smoked turkey sandwiches. The other food booth is still open. The Lady Knights will be selling soft drinks, cheese/fruit plates and popcorn. I have also entertained having a family from New Albany sell their goat cheeses and maybe someone selling chocolate. The cost for wine tasting is $10.00 a person.
If anyone wants to come and not taste wine, there will not be an entry fee. This event is for 21 and older, no one without a valid ID will be admitted. This is something new and different for us and Scottsburg, we think this could really bring a lot of people in. We are expecting a minimum of 500 people. We plan to put fliers in several local businesses, and in surrounding counties.
We will also be sending out letters to the surrounding Knights of Columbus for their support, which should bring others Knights from at least 100 mile radius of us to Scottsburg. Also we want to do some radio and newspaper advertisement but as we are not for profit our funds are also limited. All of our workers are of course volunteers and we do own the building so that is a benefit. We are planning on selling tickets ahead of time but instead of charging additional money the day of, anyone buying their ticket a head of time will be entered into a door prize drawing for wine baskets. These will be given the night of the event.The goal is to sell 250 tickets ahead of time.
NEW CARS / VINTAGE CARS AND MOTORCYCLES - TO BE HELD OCTOBER 2ND 2011...
Participate or Spectate... if you like things with wheel and an engine, plan to come to the Historic Downtown Square, in October. Usually 150 vehicles are on display from 1930 Fords to new Corvettes. Entry fee is $10. This is a great opportunity for an enthusiast to look at, or show off things with wheels and motors! Door prizes.
If you want to have one of a kind brunch, try Jeeves and Company, on the west side of the Square, between 10:00am and 2:00pm. Jeeves, a well known award-winning restaurant, is a favorite by anyone enjoying quality, casual dining!

On hundred percent of the proceeds go to support "We Care" - which helps to clothe need area children. GHOST TOURS AT THE MUSEUM
Ghost Tours are available any month this year on Saturday nights! Fees: $10.00 per persons for a 1 1/2 hour tour. Overnight tours are available for $20.00 per person with a minimum of 10 persons attending.

Just a small note, the ghosts have been very active in January. At the Museum Board Meeting on last Tuesday, they were doing a lot of hammering and etc. above our heads at the meeting. Numerous people heard the commotions. At a recent Ghost tour a lady believes she has a picture of one of the ladies sitting in a chair in the English Room upstairs. March 31st, while working on the web page, Cigar Smoke was smelled in the gift shop and small hallway out of the gift shop. It ceased after I told them there wasn't suppose to be smoking in here. You just never know when or what they are going to do next. They love to tease.
